SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf hits the links this weekend at the two-day, 54-hole Cal Poly Invitational. Six teams and 14 individuals will navigate the 6,011-yard, par-72 Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande starting on Saturday.
The Broncos are an annual participant at the event and won the team and individual title last year. Senior Kristin Le scorched Cypress Ridge with a 7-under 137 for the second of her three individual medals. Santa Clara pulled away from host Cal Poly to win by four-shots for their second title in three years on the Central Coast.
"We're really looking forward to playing this weekend," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "We know the golf course well. This is the first year they will be playing at 36-18 format. This tournament historically has been 18-18."
All 11 Broncos will compete on the final road trip of the fall season. Le, Chloe Wong, Kyleigh Moreno, Marni Murez and Emily Sumner will comprise the five-player team with Isabella Seeburger, Sarah Busey, Grace Fitzgerald, Vanessa Giampaoli, Ritida Nanda and Anne-Claire Tande all competing as individuals.
"The team is excited because I decided to take the entire team to Cal Poly," Kelly added. "Road trips are always fun when everyone is there."
Along with Santa Clara and host Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Cal Baptist, Holy Names and Cal State Bakersfield will vie for the team title. First round action gets underway Saturday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. PT. There will be no live scoring.
"It's hard to believe our fall season is coming to an end but we'd like to go out on a high note, meaning playing confident, fearless golf," Kelly explained. "We've made some great strides this fall. It's pretty exciting."
