Le Ties For Third; Women’s Golf Finishes Ninth At Anuenue Spring Break Classic

KAPALUA, Maui – Senior Kristin Le moved into a tie for third-place with a final round even-par 72, leading Santa Clara women's golf to a ninth-place finish with a 913 team total at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic.

Le moved up three spots on the individual leaderboard to end the event tied with UC Irvine's Avery French at 1-over 217. The pair finished five-shots behind individual medalist Kaci Masuda of Hawai'i and two-strokes back of Louisville's Lauren Hartlage for runner-up honors. It's the 11th career top-5 finish for Le.

"Kristin played great. It was a very solid tournament for her," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "She has some great momentum going into the next tournament."

The Broncos matched their second-round score with today's 305 to fall into ninth-place. Louisville won the team title in a tie-breaker over host Hawai'i after the two completed 54 holes with an 879 total.

"We didn't play well today," Kelly added. "But we know what we need to work on for next week."

Freshman Emily Sumner carded her lowest score of the tournament with a final-round 76 to finish in a tie for 48th at 233. Today's 79 dropped sophomore Chloe Wong into a tie for 45th with a 231 total.

Senior Kyleigh Moreno was consistent scoring three rounds of 78 to finish tied for 51st at 234. Freshman Sarah Busey ended the day in a tie for 58th at 239.

It's a short turnaround for the Broncos, who return to action Apr. 2 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz. "We know the course well, so I'm confident we'll play well," Kelly said of her team's next event.
