SANTEE, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf was unable to gain ground in Tuesday's second round of the West Coast Conference Championships and remains in fifth place with a 36-hole total of 55-over 631.
Kristin Le shot a 5-over 77 to move into a tie for 13th, along with teammate Kyleigh Moreno who was 6-over during the second round. The two Bronco seniors are at 13-over 157.
Sarah Busey fell back one spot into a tie for 11th after shooting a 79 and has a two-day total of 156.
No. 50 Pepperdine and 40th-ranked BYU are atop the leaderboard at 24-over and 29-over, respectively, in the five-team field.
The BYU duo of Kendra Dalton and Rose Huang lead the individual standings at 1-over 145.
Emily Sumner fell into a tie for 21st after logging an 82, in the second-straight windy day at the 6,221-yard Carlton Oaks course.
"Not every course is going to fit your game and for us, this one definitely does not," head coach Krsytal Kelly said. "We made some birdies coming in so that was nice, but ultimately we need to stay patient and stick to our game plan. In the past few weeks, we've really been setting ourselves up to make birdies and this tournament we're not doing that."
The Broncos will need a strong final 18 holes on Wednesday to move out of fifth as they are 10 shots behind fourth-place Gonzaga.
"They're having to grind it out," Kelly said. "I think after a few days of that it wears on you mentally. But I'm confident they'll able to put it together tomorrow; third time is the charm. That's golf. Not every round is going to be perfect."
