Women’s Golf At Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational Monday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's golf returns to action starting Monday at the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational, hosted by Seattle University. The two-day, 54-hole event will be contested on the 6,086-yard, par-72 Tacoma Country and Golf Club course with 17 teams vying for the title.

The Broncos rallied in their last event to take a share of third-place at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate two weeks ago. Head coach Krystal Kelly was excited about her team's finish and preparation leading up to Monday's tournament.

"We had a great week of qualifying and practice," Kelly said. "The team looks good. We just need to stay patient under pressure."

Kelly made a slight tweak to her lineup with freshman Duong Tran in line to compete in her first collegiate tournament. The rest of the team remains intact from the first two events of the season.

Sophomore Sarah Busey had her best finish as a Bronco last time out with a fifth-place tie. She also carded a personal-best round of 2-under 70 to pace the team at the CDI. Sophomore Emily Sumner earned her second career top-10 finish at the same event. The two second-year players lead the team in stroke average. Junior Marni Murez and freshman Claire Choi complete Santa Clara's five-player team. Murez is the only upperclassmen competing this week.

"This is the youngest team we've fielded in a long time," Kelly noted of her lineup.

First-round play gets going Monday at 8 a.m. PT with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available at birdiefire.com.
