Sumner Gets Top-20; Women’s Golf 13th At BYU Entrada Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Sophomore Emily Sumner earned her fourth top-20 finish of the year to pace Santa Clara women's golf, which ended the BYU Entrada Classic in 13th-place with a three-round total of 922.

Sumner carded a final-round 1-over 73 to grab a share of 18th with a 5-over 221 total. She outdistanced Sarah Busey by three strokes to finish as the top Bronco for the third time this season.

Busey, who signed a career-low tying 69 in the opening round, shot a 77 on Tuesday to finish at 8-over 224, good for a 25th place tie.

Freshman Claire Choi also shot a final-round 77 to grab a share of 40th at 11-over 227.

"Sarah played great in the first round, Emily played great today and Claire was very consistent this week," head coach Krystal Kelly noted. "Our top three scores were good this tournament. Unfortunately the fourth spot cost us."

Playing out of the No. 4 position, Chloe Wong recorded rounds of 83, 84 and 89, and Isabella Seeburger went 84-90-83. The Broncos had a counting score of over 80 in all three rounds leading to their bloated team total.

No. 12 Kent State earned the team title by four strokes over No. 45 Texas Tech.

"We will be making some roster adjustments for our next tournament," Kelly stated.

The Broncos will take a few weeks off to regroup, returning to action on April 1 at the Fresno State Classic.
