LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Santa Clara women's golf carded a final-round 307 ending its fall season and the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational in 14th place with a 914 (+50) team total.
"This tournament and fall (season) haven't been what I expected," head coach Krystal Kelly said. "It's been challenging finding consistency."
The Broncos scored at or above 300 (300-307-307) in all three rounds and had just one sub-300 team score in their four fall events.
The Broncos were led by junior Sarah Busey and sophomore Claire Choi, who had the same three scores albeit in different rounds. Busey was the low player on Tuesday with 3-over 75, bettering Choi by one swing. They were among a group of six golfers tied for 30th at 9-over 225.
"There is definitely more pressure on our top players to perform week in and week out," Kelly said. "I always tell my team to focus on the positive, and I'm doing the same."
Making her first start of the season senior Chloe Wong faded after an opening even-par 72. Back-to-back 79s moved her down to 54th at 14-over 230.
Senior Marni Murez finished with a 234 (79-78-77) tournament total and sophomore Naomi Wong was at 242 (81-79-82).
"Ultimately, the main difference is we are not hitting as many fairways as we have in the past and not converting as many putts on the greens," Kelly noted. "These items will be our main focus this offseason and I'm confident we will find our scoring come the spring."
The Broncos are scheduled to open the spring portion of their season in February competing in The Battle at the Rock at the Oak Quarry Club in Riverside.
