Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at WCC Championship

HENDERSON, Nev. - Santa Clara women's golf capped off the season with a fifth-place finish at the West Coast Conference Championship.

Playing under sunny but windy conditions at Reflections Bay Golf Club, the Broncos posted a 29-over 317 in Saturday's final round. They had a three-day total of 74-over 938.

Gonzaga defeated Pepperdine in a two-hole playoff to secure the team title. The Bulldogs and Waves each posted a 33-over 897.

Lauren Shew was the top finisher for the Broncos in a tie for 16th with a 15-over 231 (79-72-80). She was followed by Emily Sumner who was 17-over 233 (76-79-78) in a tie for 18th.

Sarah Busey was tied for 20th, Marie Jordaan tied for 23rd and Naomi Wong 25th to round out the Santa Clara lineup on the par-72 course. Busey carded a 20-over 236 (80-76-80), Jordaan was 23-over 239 (82-78-79) and Wong recorded a 31-over 247 (81-79-87).

Caroline Hwang of Pepperdine won the individual title by one shot over teammate Kaleiya Romero and Gonzaga's Cassie Kim with a 5-over 221.
