Women's Soccer Alumni Set to Shine in WUSA

April 12, 2001

Fourteen former Santa Clara soccer players are taking part in the newly-formed Women's United Soccer Association, with five Bronco alumni kicking off the inaugural season in the league's first-ever match this Saturday, April 14, when the Bay Area CyberRays visit the Washington Freedom.

The game will air live on Turner Network Television at 11 a.m. PDT.

In addition to the Bay Area, the WUSA is launching in seven other markets: Atlanta, Carolina, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego and Washington D.C. Santa Clara alumni are spread over each of the eight WUSA rosters.

Saturday's match-up will feature five Santa Clara standouts, four of which will be on the Bay Area CyberRays' roster: Brandi Chastain '90, Jacqui Little '99, Lisa Naņez `98 and Megan Horvath '00. 1996 graduate Emmy Barr will be the Broncos' lone representative in the Freedom lineup.

More information on the WUSA can be found on the league's official website at www.wusa.com.
