Celio Named WCC Player of the Month

Oct. 5, 2000

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Senior forward Kathleen Celio was named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Month for women's soccer in September, the league announced this afternoon.

Celio, of Fullerton, Calif., scored her first career hat trick as the Broncos swept Oregon 6-0 at Buck Shaw Stadium to open the Broncos' 2000 home schedule. The senior forward leads the team with eight goals and four assists, for 20 points, ranking first in the WCC for the month of September. Celio scored the first goal of her hat trick 39 seconds into the match, marking the program's fifth-quickest goal ever.

Celio had a knack for scoring against ranked opponents last month, earning at least two points against Connecticut, Notre Dame, Maryland and Stanford to lead Santa Clara to a 3-1 record in those matches.

The 10th-ranked Broncos open conference play this weekend, hosting Gonzaga on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Pepperdine on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 1p.m. Both matches will be played at Buck Shaw Stadium.
