SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University women's soccer standout Aly Wagner was named the 2001 Player of the Year by CollegeSoccer.com. It marks the eighth Player of the Year honor the junior forward from San Jose has received this season.
Senior defender Danielle Slaton joined Wagner on CollegeSoccer.com's All-American First Team, while senior defender Anna Kraus was a second team selection and sophomore midfielder Veronica Zepeda earned honorable mention accolades.
Wagner led Santa Clara to its first outright national title, cementing the win by scoring the game-winning goal in the NCAA Championship match. Wagner has also received the Honda Award as the nation's best soccer player, and was a finalist for the Hermann Trophy and the MAC Player of the Year awards. She was named the College Cup Offensive MVP and has also garnered Player of the Year honors from Soccer America, SoccerBuzz, CollegeSoccer.com, the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame and the West Coast Conference.
