May 22, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The national champion Santa Clara University women's soccer program ranked sixth in the country in total attendance during the 2001 season, according to figures recently released by the NCAA.

The Broncos' home facility, Buck Shaw Stadium, hosted 13,143 fans during the championship season. Florida, the team Santa Clara defeated in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, led the list with 20,252 total attendees. Texas was second, followed by North Carolina, West Coast Conference rival Portland and Connecticut.

The Broncos ranked sixth nationally, despite canceling what would have been the biggest draw on the 2001 schedule, a September 14 contest against Notre Dame.

Santa Clara concludes its spring schedule on tomorrow evening with a visit to Stanford for a 7 p.m. scrimmage.
