Women's Soccer Returns to Action Tonight Against California

Sept. 17, 2001

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A Bay Area Rivalry heats up again as the third-ranked Santa Clara University women's soccer team hosts No. 13 California at Buck Shaw Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for yesterday afternoon, but postponed one day as the University postponed all athletic events through the weekend.

The Broncos enter the match with a perfect 4-0 mark as the squad has started the 2001 season outscoring its opponents 16-1. The Bears (3-1) look to rebound from a 3-1 road loss to then-No. 10 Texas A&M last week when it visits Santa Clara tonight. Also on the line for the Bears is redemption from a 2000 NCAA Tournament Second Round loss to the Broncos in Berkeley to tie the school's all-time series at 10-10-2. Cal opened its season with wins against Pacific, Michigan and Texas.
