STANFORD, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's soccer team closed the spring season with a 3-3 tied against Stanford in a scrimmage last night at the Cardinal's New Maloney Field. After the match, the Broncos attended a screening of 'Bend it Like Beckham,' a hit soccer movie that mentions SCU in the film.

Junior Veronica Zepeda scored twice, while freshman Micaela Esquivel added a goal, for the Broncos.

Santa Clara began its spring season at Nebraska in April, and went on to win the 7v7 tournament in Berkeley. The Broncos also scrimmaged California, earning a 1-0 win behind a goal from Tracy Hess.

Santa Clara will aim for its 10th overall appearance in the College Cup with the start of the 2003 season. The Broncos' 20-match schedule features 12 programs that advanced to last year's NCAA Championship, included four of the top eight seeds. The Broncos will host eight of those matches at Buck Shaw. The season kicks off against UCLA at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 29. Last season, the Bruins were ranked third when the Broncos upset them in overtime in Los Angeles. Santa Clara is 4-0 against UCLA in the all-time series between the schools. Season tickets go on sale July 1.
