MALIBU, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Santa Clara University women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision at 12th-ranked Pepperdine today despite outshooting the Waves by a 9-4 margin, including a 5-1 edge in the first half.

Pepperdine junior midfielder Janelle Hillseth scored at the 46:57 mark of the second half to lift Waves to their second-straight home victory over SCU and move the Waves into a first-place tie between the two teams in the West Coast Conference.

Pepperdine improved to 13-1-2 overall and 3-1 in WCC play, while Santa Clara, had its four-match winning streak snapped, and dropped to 11-4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

With the win, Pepperdine became the first WCC team to defeat Santa Clara and Portland in the same year and marked the first loss for the Broncos in league play this season. Santa Clara, playing without All-America forward Aly Wagner, dropped its second-straight match to the Waves as Pepperdine was one of only two teams to defeat the Broncos in their championship season last year.

Santa Clara returns to action Sunday in a 1 p.m. match at Loyola Marymount. Live statistical coverage of the match can be found by clicking here.
