LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Santa Clara University women's soccer squad scored its only goal in the 20th minute of the contest and held on the rest of the game for a narrow 1-0 victory over Loyola Marymount Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

At the 19:37 mark of the first half Kristi Candau sent a cross to Lana Bowen on the left side who turned and shot the ball which was caught above LMU goalkeeper Kelly Yukihiro's head in a diving effort. Depsite making the diving stop, the linejudge ruled the ball had crossed the plane of the goal, giving the Broncos the 1-0 advantage and Bowen her first goal of the season.

The Broncos (12-4-1, 4-1-0 WCC) outshot the Lions (9-6-2, 2-3-0 WCC) by a 7-3 margin in the first half and 9-4 for the match, forcing Yukihiro to make five saves. Leslie Osborne led all players with four shots on goal, while the Lions' Lori Sims had a team-high two. Santa Clara netminder Alyssa Sobolik was never challenged on the day as all four of LMU's shots were not on the mouth of the goal.

Santa Clara returns to action next weekend on the road as the travel to Portland to take on the Pilots, who like the Bronco are ranked in the top-5 in the country. Sunday's match, which will be broadcast on the ASCN cable network in Portland, will begin at 1 p.m.
