MISSION, Kan. - Santa Clara University women's soccer standout Aly Wagner has been named a first-team All-America honoree for the third consecutive year, the National Soccer Coaches Association announced in conjunction with adidas on Thursday. Fellow senior midfielder Devvyn Hawkins earned her first honor as she was named a third-team selection.
Penn State senior forward Christie Welsh earned her fourth consecutive nomination, while Portland's Lauren Orlandos and Nebraska's Christine Latham joined Wagner in earning three All-America recognitions.
On Thursday, Wagner was honored with the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy and is also a finalist for the 2002 Honda Award and U.S. Soccer Chevy Female Athlete of the Year honor. Hawkins scored the Broncos' only goal in the NCAA College Cup final last Sunday.
The NSCAA/adidas All-America teams are determined through voting by NSCAA member coaches from across the nation. The teams, from youth to NCAA Division I, will be honored at the NSCAA/adidas All-America Luncheon, to be held Saturday, Jan. 18, as part of the 2003 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
