Feb. 9, 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's soccer program held its annual awards banquet Friday night at the Adobe Lodge on campus and recognized a number of outstanding team and individual performances that contributed to the team's success in 2003.

More than 100 members of the SCU soccer community took part in the celebratory evening. Junior midfielder/defender Leslie Osborne was named Player of the Year and Offensive MVP by her teammates. The squad also voted senior Chardonnay Poole as the team's Defensive MVP, while sophomore Micaela Esquivel was honored as the Most Inspirational Player. Lauren Zealear received Rookie of the Year recognition while Tiffany Roberts was named Most Improved Player. Marian Dalmy received the Coaches Award.

Individual honors were also celebrated, including awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Soccer Buzz and Soccer America magazines, and the West Coast Conference, among many others. Additionally, the 2003 senior class -- Kristi Candau, Tracy Hess, Poole and Veronica Zepeda -- was honored.

A highlight film chronicling the team's season was also shown. Candau's cousin, Lisa Smyth, has been kind enough to share photos of the event. Please click here to view her personal gallery.
