SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University women's soccer team will be introduced for the first time publicly Saturday, August 23 at the SCU SoccerFest 2003, presented by the Rotary Club of Santa Clara at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The event, which culminates the 2003 Santa Clara Rotary Cup that takes place throughout the city, will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an exhibition followed by an interactive clinic on the field for all youth in attendance and autograph session with the entire Bronco squad. Gates to Buck Shaw Stadium will open at 5:30 p.m. and Bronco concessions, provided by Bon Appetit, will be offering hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and other items.

"This is a great opportunity to expose the participants of our youth tournament to one of the storied college women's soccer programs in the country," said Bob Ricks, Rotary Club of Santa Clara president. "We appreciate our relationship with Santa Clara University and the soccer program's generosity to make this special event happen. The folks who attended last year's event had a great time and we are confident this year will be even better."

Santa Clara will aim for its 10th overall appearance in the College Cup this season. But, the first challenge is its grueling 20-match schedule that features 12 programs that advanced to last year's NCAA Championship, including four of the top eight seeds. The Broncos will host eight of those matches at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The 2003 season kicks off at home against UCLA at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 29. Last season, the Bruins were ranked third in the nation when the Broncos upset them in overtime in Los Angeles. Santa Clara is 4-0 against UCLA in the all-time series between the schools.
