STANFORD, Calif. - The15th-ranked Santa Clara University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over TCU as part of the Stanford Nike Invitational, hosted by Stanford at Maloney Field.

It marked the third straight shut out for the Broncos, who are now 6-3-3 on the season. TCU falls to 5-6-1. The match marked the first meeting of these two squads in program history.

Santa Clara struck in the 17th minute, when sophomore Micaela Esquivel found redshirt freshman Bonnie Bowman streaking down the left side. She ran down the ball and launched an attempt that bent into the far right corner. It marked Bowman's first collegiate score.

"Micaela played a great ball and although I was looking to make the cross, I'm excited about my first goal," Bowman said. "It's kind of funny, because I saw it go in before anybody else. I was already celebrating before my teammates realized we scored."

The Broncos kept the pressure on in the second half, and out-shot TCU 11-3 overall, including three headers on goal by junior Leslie Osborne off corner kicks from senior Kristi Candau. Additionally, Santa Clara took nine corner kicks while holding the Horned Frogs to zero corners. Bronco keeper Alyssa Sobolik earned her first shut out of the season.

Santa Clara remains on the road and will travel to Southern California for two matches. The Broncos will play Cal State Fullerton for the first time in program history on October 10 at 6 p.m., and then open the West Coast Conference's 12th season. Santa Clara was voted one of the league's preseason favorites by the coaches during a summer poll and will visit San Diego on October 12 at 1 p.m. The Broncos are 9-2-0 against the Toreros all-time, and are currently amid a six-match winning streak, including three straight shutouts.
