Bronco Soccer Squads To Appear at SCU SoccerFest 2004

  • SCU Soccer Tickets On Sale SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Santa Clara University men's and women's soccer teams will be introduced for the first time publicly Saturday, August 21 at SCU SoccerFest 2004, presented by the Rotary Club of Santa Clara at Buck Shaw Stadium. The event, which is part of the 2004 Santa Clara Rotary Cup that takes place throughout the city, will begin at 7 p.m. with an exhibition followed by an interactive clinic on the field for all youth in attendance and autograph session with both Bronco squads. Gates to Buck Shaw Stadium will open at 6 p.m. and Bronco concessions, provided by Bon Appetit, will be offering hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and other items. The Bronco men's team will be looking to return to the College Cup for the second consecutive season after falling in the NCAA semifinals to eventual champion Indiana 1-0 in overtime last year. The Santa Clara women will aim for its 10th overall appearance in the College Cup this season. The Bronco men open their home schedule Sept. 16 in the annual adidas Classic. San Francisco plays Davidson in the first match at 5 p.m., while Santa Clara hosts neighboring San Jose State in the annual Rivalry Series match at 7:30. The event is also Santa Clara Community Day, presented by the Bank of Santa Clara with all residents of Santa Clara receiving discount admission to both games. Call 408/554-4660 for tickets. The women play their home opener a week later, facing Marquette in the adidas Classic on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Stanford will play Denver in the opener that evening at 5 p.m.
