SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Preseason All-America candidate Leslie Osborne scored in the 107th minute to lead the fourth-ranked Santa Clara University women's soccer team to a double-overtime victory over SMU this evening to open the Notre Dame Classic at Alumni Field in South Bend, Ind. The Broncos' record improves to 1-0-1 while SMU falls to 1-1-1. Osborne took a cross from fellow senior Megan Kakadelas and took her attempt to the far left corner. It marked her second goal of the season. Sophomore forward Tina Estrada opened the day's scoring on a header to give the Broncos a lead in the sixth minute, also assisted by Kakadelas. That score held through the half, as Santa Clara held the Mustangs shotless for the first 45 minutes. The Broncos finished the match with a 25-8 shot advantage. A Bronco foul gave SMU a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Olivia O'Rear converted the attempt to tie the match. Estrada took another attempt in the final minute to try to avoid overtime, but her shot was wide left. Osborne notched five shots on goal to lead the Broncos. Just prior to Osborne's game-winning goal, freshman Jordan Angeli took a shot from inside the box that hit off the crossbar. Santa Clara remains at the tournament and will play the host--and second ranked--Fighting Irish Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. Pacific.
