Brandi Chastain to Make Media Appearances

Oct. 14, 2004

Former Santa Clara University women's soccer stand out Brandi Chastain is set to appear on NBC's "Today" Show and CBS's "The Late Show with David Letterman" on Monday to promote her new book, "It's Not About the Bra: How to Play Hard, Play Fair, and Put the Fun Back Into Competitive Sports."

Chastain, who has won two gold and one silver medal in the past three Olympics, will also make appearances on Monday with Fox News Edge and CNN Live From. Other national media appearances include a segment on ABC Radio's "Mitch Albom Show" today, a taping with VH-1 Radio's "Sit and Spin" on Tuesday and a piece with VH-1 Radio's Satellite Tour live on November 5.

Her book went on sale on Tuesday and retails for $21.95.

Chastain was a two-time All-American at Santa Clara, and played a major role on the Broncos' 1989 and '90 national semifinal teams. She then went on to international fame by helping the U.S. National Team win the inaugural Women's World Cup and bringing home the first-ever Olympic women's soccer gold medal.

On Oct. 29, Chastain will make an appearance in the Bay Area, visiting Harvest Park Middle School Amphitheater in Pleasanton (4900 Valley Ave.) to discuss and sign copies of her new book. The event, sponsored by Towne Center Books and Altamont Books, will be held 4-6 p.m.

Santa Clara (7-4-2, 0-1-0 WCC) will look for its first win of the conference season against Bay Area rivals Saint Mary's and San Francisco this weekend. The Gaels (8-6-0, 0-1-0) have lost three straight and will try to end that streak against the Broncos on Friday at 3 p.m. at Garaventa Field in Moraga. SMC is led by Genevieve Hollis, who has scored seven goals on the season. The Dons (7-3-3, 1-0-0) on the other hand, have won four straight and will host San Diego on Friday before the Broncos arrive on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest at Negoesco Stadium. USF has shut out its last two opponents and has already had two players record hat tricks this season.
