SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The tenth-ranked Santa Clara women's soccer team continued its winning ways on Friday night with a 1-0 West Coast Conference victory over Gonzaga in front of 1,022 fans at Buck Shaw Stadium. With the win, the Broncos improve to 10-4-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.

"We had a good all-around team effort tonight against a well-coached and organized Gonzaga team," said head coach Jerry Smith. "We were able to rest some injured players tonight and hold on to the win."

Freshman Brittany Klein made her first goal as a Bronco a memorable one as it proved to be the game-winner for SCU. The Arcadia, Calif. native headed a cross from Micaela Esquivel into the lower right corner of the goal in the 64th minute to give Santa Clara the lead and eventually the victory.

The entire match was dominated by the Bronco offense, which out-shot the Bulldogs 15-2. In the first half, Gonzaga managed only one shot, while SCU posted six opportunities. Gonzaga would not post another shot until the 89th minute, as the Broncos added nine in the second half.

Goalkeeper Julie Ryder recorded saves on both Bulldog shots to bring her season save mark to 27. The shutout was Ryder's sixth on the season and the eighth for Santa Clara.

The Broncos will be back in action on Sunday when they host West Coast Conference rival Portland at Buck Shaw Stadium. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be tape-delayed broadcast by College Sports Television
