Santa Clara, Calif. - Santa Clara women's soccer head coach Jerry Smith and his wife Brandi Chastain welcomed the newest addition to the Bronco family last week. Jaden Chastain Smith was born on Thursday, June 8 just in time for the kick off the 2006 World Cup and right on time to celebrate his parent's wedding anniversary. Smith and Chastain were married on June 8, 1996 at the Mission Church on the campus of Santa Clara.

Jaden weighed seven pounds and 10 ounces and was 22 inches long. Jaden, who has already donned the Bronco red and white, is eligible for Santa Clara's Class of 2028. Both Brandi and Jaden are healthy and doing well.

Jaden's older brother, Cameron Smith, will be a freshman at Santa Clara beginning this fall.

Jerry Smith is entering his 20th season at the helm of the Santa Clara women's soccer program, compiling a 311-79-26 record and a .779 winning percentage, good for third best in NCAA history. Under Smith, Santa Clara has qualified for 17 straight NCAA tournaments, appeared in 10 College Cups and captured the 2001 National Championship.
