Angeli Earns Second National Team of the Week Honor

Oct. 10, 2005

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After establishing herself as a defender in her freshman season at Santa Clara, sophomore Jordan Angeli is keeping her college career balanced by piling up the honors for her play on the front line this season. For the second time in 2005 Angeli was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week, this time for her three-goal weekend in a pair of 2-0 victories over Fresno State and San Diego, respectively.

Angeli netted both Bronco goals in Friday's win over the Bulldogs at Buck Shaw Stadium, her third multi-goal game of the season. In the 37th minute she raced past the Bulldog back line to Hayley Siegel's through ball and fired a laser into the net for the early lead. She struck again in the 88th minute, icing the match with a goal from seven yards out following a play off of a Bronco corner kick.

Down in San Diego for the team's WCC opener, Angeli was a constant presence in the box as she took six shots in the match with four of those shots coming on frame. She helped put the Toreros into a deeper hole as 46 seconds after Tiffany Roberts put the Broncos up 1-0, Angeli buried a point-blank shot from Roberts to give Santa Clara the two-goal cushion.

"One of the things you want from any of your key performers is consistency, and think Jordan had a great start to her season, she is an experiment turned into a phenomenon," said head coach Jerry Smith. "Like I've always said, Jordan is a very hard-working, coachable student of the game. She takes all aspects of her training very seriously and is always looking to improve, and that's a credit to Jordan."

The three goals up Angeli's tally to nine for the season, putting her second in the WCC in goals scored, and tied for third in points with 21.

The honor from Top Drawer Soccer joins an already long list of accolades Angeli has earned just this year, including National Player of the Week honors the week of September 5-11 from Soccer America and spots on the National Teams of the Week for Soccer America, Soccer Buzz, and Top Drawer Soccer the same week for her two-goal performance against then-No. 1 Notre Dame on September 9.

Angeli and the Bronco attack return to action Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Buck Shaw Stadium as they host the Saint Mary's Gaels in WCC action. Tickets are available by calling (408) 554-4660.
