March 16, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University women's soccer players Jordan Angeli and Kendall Doherty were named co-winners of the Comcast Community All-Star award for February. The pair received the award prior to the Santa Clara baseball team's game against Stanford on March 6. Jodie Garner of Comcast presented the award to Angeli and Doherty.

Angeli and Doherty were the organizers of two big community service projects by the women's soccer team during February. The pair organized a day working with Habitat for Humanity as well as visits to a local soup kitchen to help serve food and clean dishes.

Angeli, a junior, is one of the captains of the women's soccer team and is also a member of the United States Under-21 national team. She played 16 games for SCU in 2006 and recorded two goals and seven assists for 11 points. Angeli missed the beginning of the season while playing for the U.S. U20 team in the U20 World Cup. Doherty is also a junior and she appeared in eight matches for Santa Clara last year and notched two assists.

The Comcast Community All-Star Award is presented to Santa Clara student-athletes who are active in benefiting their local community. The award was developed two years ago and is presented monthly to a different student-athlete who is positively contributing their time and energy to help others.
