Poach Notches An Assist To Help U.S. To 4-1 Win At World Championships

Santa Clara, Calif. - Santa Clara midfielder Amanda Poach assisted on the game-winning goal to help the United States Under-20 national team win its second straight game at the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women's World Championship in Russia. Poach set up Danesha Adams for the Americans' second goal in a 4-1 victory over Argentina. Jordan Angeli started her second straight game for the U.S. as well, helping the Americans to a 2-0 start in pool play.

The U.S. wraps up pool play on Thursday, Aug. 24 against France at 8:00 a.m. PT at Dynamo Stadium in Moscow. Fans can follow the game live on U.S. Soccer's Matchtracker at www.ussoccer.com. Having already advanced to the quarterfinals, the U.S. will need a victory to win the group as France has a superior goal differential.

Poach set up Adams for the goal by maneuvering around a defender in midfield before chipping a ball over the top of the defense, where Adams ran onto the ball and knocked it over the goalkeeper. Adams then slotted home a volley to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute. Poach has now started both matches for the Americnas, playing 90 minutes in a 2-1 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo and 45 minutes against Argentina.
