Bronco Women Named To U.S. Rosters For Upcoming Competitions

July 9, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - With international play heating up this summer, current and former Santa Clara women's soccer stars have been seeing plenty of time in the spotlight with the various U.S. national teams. Along with the announcement that Marian Dalmy ('07) and Leslie Osborne ('05) will be on the U.S. senior team roster for a July 14 friendly against Norway, sophomore Kiki Bosio was named to the U-21 squad that will battle for the Nordic Cup from July 18-24 in Finland.

Held in Northern Europe every summer, the USA has competed in the Nordic Cup for more than a decade, during which time it has become the focus of the USA's oldest youth national team during its six-month run-up to the prestigious competition. In response to FIFA moving its oldest FIFA youth world championship for women from Under-19 to Under-20, this year the Nordic Cup moves from an Under-21 competition to an Under-23 tournament (it was staged as a U-20 event from 1990-1997).

The USA has won eight Nordic Cup titles, including seven in a row before falling last year in the championship game to Germany. The USA won the last Nordic Cup contested in Finland in 2002, defeating Germany, 3-1 in the final.

Bosio, who was named to the All-WCC First Team as well as to the All-Freshman team in 2006, scored three goals and led the Broncos with eight assists on the season. Her playmaking abilities will come in handy for a U.S. squad that kicks off tournament play July 18 against Norway, before concluding preliminary round play opposite Sweden on July 22. The title match, as well as third- and fifth-place matches will all be held on July 24.

Dalmy and Osborne will once again make appearances for the senior squad, as the Americans face fourth-ranked Norway in East Hartford, Conn. The match will be the first of the U.S.'s remaining four contests of their 2007 Send-Off Series leading up to the Women's World Cup in China.

The next scheduled contest for the Americans will be July 28 against Japan at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, Calif.
