Broncos Midfielder Brittany Klein Named WCC Player Of The Week

Sept. 10, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's soccer captain Brittany Klein was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Klein helped the Broncos to a 2-0-1 overall record and a second place finish in the 2007 Santa Clara adidas Classic, where SCU routed then-No. 2 Notre Dame, 7-1, Friday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Klein, a native of Arcadia, Calif., was instrumental in the Broncos win over the Fighting Irish as she netted two goals and provided an assist on Meagan Snell's second goal of the night, which put the Broncos up, 4-1, in the second half. Her back-to-back goals helped the Broncos to a 6-1 score with fifteen minutes left and tied what was the most number of goals Notre Dame had allowed of its opponents since 1989.

For her impressive efforts this weekend, Klein was named to the all-tournament team, along with teammates Kiki Bosio and Snell. Klein currently leads the Broncos with seven total points and is first on the team in goals, with three.

Klein and the Broncos return to action next weekend for their first series of games on the road at the 2007 Stanford Tournament. Santa Clara will face BIG EAST opponent Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m., and then play Missouri on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m.
