Bosio and Klein Named To Soccer Buzz and TopDrawerSoccer.com Weekly National Teams

Sept. 11, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's soccer midfielder Brittany Klein and forward Kiki Bosio were both named to this week's Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week, as well as TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.

These are the second and third honors for senior captain Klein this week, as she was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Meanwhile, Bosio picks up her first weekly accolade of the season.

Both Bronco standouts helped SCU to a 2-0-1 overall record and a second place finish in the 2007 Santa Clara adidas Classic. The Broncos upset then-No. 2 Notre Dame, 7-1, Friday night at Buck Shaw Stadium. The victory marked the most goals Notre Dame has allowed of its opponents since 1989 and the Broncos largest margin of victory over the Fighting Irish in the overall series.

Klein, a native of Arcadia, Calif., was instrumental in the Broncos win over the Fighting Irish as she netted two goals and provided an assist on Meagan Snell's second goal of the night, which put the Broncos up, 4-1, in the second half. Her back-to-back goals helped the Broncos to a 6-1 score with fifteen minutes left.

Brittany Klein leads SCU in points and goals with seven and three, respectively.

Bosio began and ended Friday night's game for Santa Clara, scoring the first unassisted goal of the night at 16 minutes. She then kept the momentum going for the Broncos as she provided an assist on Courtney Lewis' goal just five minutes later. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native put the final nail in the coffin Friday night with 11 minutes left in the second half, as she netted her second goal of the season off a pass from freshman Anessa Patton to bring the Broncos to a 7-1 victory.

Klein and Bosio were named to the weekend's all-tournament team, along with senior Meagan Snell.

The Broncos return to action next weekend for their first series of games on the road at the 2007 Stanford Tournament. Santa Clara will face BIG EAST opponent Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m., and then play Missouri on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m.
