Lewis Receives Second Soccer America Team Of The Week Honors

Sept. 18, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's soccer midfielder Courtney Lewis received her second weekly honor as she was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week. Earlier this week, Lewis was named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week. Both honors are career firsts.

Lewis aided the No. 1 Broncos' attack over the weekend by scoring the equalizing goals in both games, helping her team to a 4-0-1 overall record.

The Mission Viejo, Calif., native netted the game-tying goal versus No. 12 Rutgers on Friday at the 2007 Stanford Invitational. The goal was scored with just two minutes left in regulation and sent the Broncos into overtime to record the 2-1 victory. On Sunday, against No. 20 Missouri, the redshirt freshman struck again as she received a cross from Kiki Bosio to knot the score, 1-1, just before halftime.

Lewis led the Broncos last weekend with two goals and four points, and is tied for second overall with six total points. She has compiled three goals so far this season.

Last week, Lewis and teammate Brittany Klein were also named to Soccer America's Team of the Week for their contributions in Santa Clara's 7-1 rout of then-No. 2 Notre Dame.

Lewis and the Broncos remain on the road next weekend as they travel to Arizona for two contests. Santa Clara beings action in the Grand Canyon State on Friday, Sept. 21 against Arizona State at 7 p.m., PT and then battles the Wildcats of Arizona on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m., PT.
