Lewis Named To Soccer Buzz's Elite Team Of The Week

Sept. 19, 2007

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The weekly honors continue to roll in for Bronco women's soccer's Courtney Lewis. The midfielder was named to Soccer Buzz's Elite Team of the Week, it was announced Wednesday.

Earlier in the week Lewis received West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors, while also being named to Soccer America's Team of the Week. All three honors are career firsts for the Mission Viejo, Calif., native.

Lewis aided the No. 1 Broncos' attack over the weekend by scoring the equalizing goals in both games, helping her team to a 4-0-1 overall record. With just two minutes left in regulation, she netted the game-tying goal versus then-No. 12 Rutgers on Friday at the 2007 Stanford Tournament. Santa Clara eventually won 2-1 in overtime. On Sunday, against then-No. 20 Missouri, the redshirt sophomore struck again as she received a cross from Kiki Bosio to knot the score, 1-1, just before halftime.

Lewis led the Broncos last weekend with two goals and four points, and is tied for second overall with six total points. She has compiled three goals so far this season.

The Broncos remain on the road next weekend as they travel to Arizona for two contests. Santa Clara beings action in the Grand Canyon State on Friday, Sept. 21 against Arizona State at 7 p.m., PT and then battles the Wildcats of Arizona on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m., PT.
