SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's soccer team compiled a 4-0 victory Friday night against Cal Poly in non-conference action in San Luis Obispo, Calif. With the win the No. 1 Broncos improved to 7-0-1 overall, while the Mustangs fell to 1-7-1 on the season.

"We played really well tonight," said head coach Jerry Smith. "It was an example of our team continuing to improve. We had better possession and better combination plays tonight. It's not often that you have the game well in hand before the very end and because of that we were able to put all of our players on the field tonight."

Courtney Lewis netted the first goal of the night off a corner kick from Kiki Bosio. She sent a short ball to Lexi Orand who then crossed it to Lewis.

The next goal for the Broncos came on a cross from Bosio. The ball found redshirt senior Tina Estrada, who slammed the ball past Mustang goalkeeper Alli Tramel to give Santa Clara a two-goal edge.

After the half, Orand scored a goal of her own in the 59th minute, while Santa Clara's final goal of the night was crafted by a foul in the box on Tramel and penalty kick from Estrada.

Junior goalkeeper Meagan McCray helped the team post its fourth shutout of the season, making four saves. Lisa Lahman also saw her first taste of playing time this season. She played the last 14 minutes between the posts for the Broncos and registered five saves to finish off the clean sheet.

Santa Clara returns to Buck Shaw Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 30, to host No. 22 California. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
