SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The ninth-ranked Santa Clara women's soccer team will host three contest this week at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Broncos return home after a 1-1 weekend and welcome the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara in their last non-conference match-up of the season Wednesday night at 7 p.m. SCU will then host Pepperdine on Friday at 6 p.m., and Loyola Marymount on Sunday at Noon in West Coast Conference action.
Last Week For Bronco Women's Soccer
Santa Clara rebounded from its 0-2-1 rut to split its matches 1-1 last weekend. The Broncos edged the Titans of Cal State Fullerton, 3-2, Friday night, before falling 1-0 in the WCC opener to then-No. 16 San Diego on Sunday. In Friday's contest, the Broncos entered the second half after a scoreless 45 minutes of play, before Kiki Bosio scored the first goal of the night. About 16 minutes later, senior Chioma Igwe netted her first goal of the season to put SCU up 2-0. Although, the Titans equalized the score and send the match into overtime, sophomore Katherine Reynolds acted quickly and scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute.
Against the Toreros, the Broncos played a fantastic match and limited USD to only one goal. Although Santa Clara was unable to score a goal of their own, redshirt senior Tina Estrada led the attack with three shots.
Sophomore Bosio and senior captain Brittany Klein switched spots this week on the Broncos' leader board. Bosio is now first on the team with 13 points and leads the team with five assists, while Klein is first on the team with five goals and second in points with 11. Junior goalkeeper Meagan McCray has collected 62 saves thus far and owns a .816 saves percentage.

McCray Climbs In The Record Books
Despite splitting the weekend's contests, junior McCray continues to have a phenomenal season with the Broncos. She added two more saves to her career total this weekend and is now tied for sixth on the all-time career saves list with Crystal Gordon (1997-00) with 137 total saves. McCray continues to hold onto fourth place in the all-time goal-against average list (.780), while her 13 career shutouts gives her ninth place on that list.
McCray also entered the single season saves list last week and holds steady at No. 6 on that list for this season with 62 total saves. Last season, she tallied 59 saves, for seventh place. Meanwhile, Estrada, who led the attack for the Broncos against then-No. 16 San Diego remains two goals shy of joining the record books. The redshirt senior has netted 30 career goals and two more will tie her with Kathleen Celio (1997-00) and Brandi Chastain (1989-90) for the No. 10 spot.
Santa Clara in WCC
The Broncos open the week being ranked in the top five in six statistical categories this week. SCU is second in the league in saves, averaging 5.23 per game, while claiming the No. 3 spot in points and goals. In shutouts, the Broncos are tied for Portland for fourth place, and are tied with Pepperdine for fifth in assists.
Individually, Estrada is tied for sixth in shots per game and goals. Sophomore Bosio appears in three categories this week as she is ranked fourth in assists, fifth in points, sixth in goals and eighth in shots per game. Senior captain Klein is tied for second on the WCC in goals, and is also tied for ninth in points. Courtney Lewis made her first appearance since missing four contests midseason this weekend and continues to be tied for sixth in the league in goals. Goalkeeper McCray dropped one spot to No. 2 in saves, but climb to being tied for fourth in shutouts and is fifth in goals-against average.

Scouting UC Santa Barbara
The Gauchos enter Wednesday's game with a 5-7-2 overall record and for the month of October, they are 2-2. In UCSB's last outing, it fell 2-1 to UC Irvine in Big West Conference action. Kailyn Kruger tied the game for the Gauchos with just six seconds left in the first half, but that was the only goal UCSB would score during the contest.
Kruger leads the Gauchos with 14 points and six goals, while Katrina Wright is first on the squad in assists, dishing out four. In goal, Katie Wright has seen most of the action for UCSB, collecting 43 saves and posting four shutouts.
Santa Clara owns a slight edge over Santa Barbara in the overall series with an 8-7-3 record. The Broncos and Gauchos last met 11 years ago, on Sept. 9, 1996, when SCU topped UCSB, 3-1.
Scouting Pepperdine
The Waves open the weekend with a 3-5-5 overall record and, most recently, feel 1-0 to the Lions of Loyola Marymount in their WCC season opener.
Leading Pepperdine this season is Amanda Rupp, who has compiled 12 points and four goals. Rupp also leads the Waves in assists, dishing out four. Kayla Stolte has been in goal for all 13 contests for the Waves this season. She has registered 41 saves and posted two shutouts.
In the conference standings, Rupp is tied for seventh overall in points, while Emily Wynne is ranked fourth in shots per game, averaging 2.62. Rupp also ties for eighth in assists per game. Meanwhile, Stolte checks in at No. 4 in goals-against average (.092), No. 7 in saves and is tied for seventh in shutouts.
The Broncos and Waves last met on Oct. 15, 2006, when Pepperdine recorded a 1-0 victory over SCU. Santa Clara owns a 9-4-0 overall series record against Pepperdine.
Scouting Loyola Marymount
The Lions will face the Toreros of San Diego Friday night, before traveling north to battle the Broncos. LMU enters the week with a 9-3-1 overall record and is currently riding a nine-game winning streak that dates back to Sept. 14. Most recently, the Lions opened league play with a 1-0 win over the Waves of Pepperdine at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in Malibu, Calif. Scoring the game-winning goal for the Lions was Lacey Bartels in the 13th minute of the contest.
Jamie Bell leads the way for LMU with 11 points, while Katie Osborne is right behind her with 10 points. Bell and Osborne are tied for first on the squad in goals, netting four each. In assists, three Lions have shared the duties. Bell, Gabrielle Parisella and Lily Sorentino have each dished out three. Joslyn Slovek has served as the starting goalkeeper in all 13 contests for the Lions. She has recorded 49 saves and eight shutouts this season.
In the WCC, LMU ranks second as a team in points, goals, assists and goals-against average. The Lions are also tied with the Toreros for first place in the shutouts category. Individually, Bell is tied with SCU's Klein in points. Bell and Osborne are tied for sixth in the league in goals. In the save category, Slovek ranks fifth overall, and claims the No. 1 spot in shutouts and goals against average.
The Broncos and Lions last met on Oct. 13, 2006, when SCU tied LMU 1-1. Scoring the lone goal for the Broncos was Meagan Snell. In the overall series, Santa Clara owns an all-time record of 12-2-1.
On Deck
Santa Clara continues WCC play against Gonzaga and Portland. The Broncos will travel to Spokane, Wash., to face the Bulldogs on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. Then, on Oct. 27, SCU will battle Portland at 2 p.m.
