SANTA CLARA, CALIF. - Ninth-ranked Santa Clara women's soccer fought to a 0-0 stalemate in double overtime Wednesday night against UC Santa Barbara. The Broncos continue action at Buck Shaw Stadium Friday night against West Coast Conference rival, Pepperdine, at 6 p.m. With the tie, SCU is 8-3-3 on the season, while UCSB improved to 5-7-3 overall.

Sophomore Kiki Bosio led the attack for the Broncos with seven shots and freshman Jessie Baddley attempted three shots, two of which were on goal.

"We played a very tough UCSB team tonight," said head coach Jerry Smith. "We appreciated how hard they worked in the game overall and to defend us. We came out with a casual approach tonight and played with the mentality of not expending too much energy because we have a tough week ahead of us. But in the end we probably used up more energy. We were outworked, but the good news is that we didn't lose."

Freshman Maxine Goynes was an integral part of the Broncos defense against the Gauchos. While senior captain Brittany Klein provided a strong effort and solid leadership in the midfield for SCU.

The first half was slow for both teams as Santa Clara only registered three shots to Santa Barbara's four, and all three shots were taken by Bosio. But the Broncos stepped up their attack in the second half, trying to take advantage of several opportunities. Forced into the overtime, the Broncos continued their fight to put a point on the scoreboard. In the 107th minute, a shot by Katherine Reynolds was deflected by Gauchos' goalkeeper Katie Wright, giving the Broncos their sixth corner kick of the night. Bosio took the corner for SCU sending the ball to Baddley, who attempted the final shot of the night, but was blocked by a UCSB defender.

Santa Clara remains at home to face Pepperdine in WCC action on Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. The Broncos then close their brief home stand with a Noon contest against the Lions of LMU on Sunday, Oct. 21.
