SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's soccer team had eight players receive All-West Coast Conference accolades for their performance this season, it was announced Wednesday. Headlining the list was redshirt senior Tina Estrada, who picked up her fourth honor as she was a second team selection.
An all-conference freshman team selection last year, Kiki Bosio received first team honors for her sophomore campaign. Senior captain Brittany Klein earned her third league honor as she joined Bosio on the first team. This season, the duo combined for 14 of the Broncos 33 goals, each collecting seven. Bosio also led the team in assists and points with six and 20, respectively, while Klein dished out two assists and registered 16 points. Both players have been fixtures in the conference standings this season. In the last release, Bosio was tied for first in shots, claimed the No. 4 in points and was tied with Klein for fifth place in goals.
Earning All-WCC Second Team honors were Estrada, Chioma Igwe and Katherine Reynolds. Estrada is currently ranked third on SCU's squad with five goals and 11 points. The redshirt senior returned to the field this season after missing what would have been her final year due to a knee injury. She is just one goal shy of tying for 10th place on the Broncos' career goals list. Igwe made a huge move this season from midfield to defender and has led Santa Clara's defense to eight shutouts this season. Meanwhile, Reynolds has played a tremendous role for the Broncos this season, earning five points on two goals and one assist. Both of her goals this season where game-winning performances and helped Santa Clara to victories over then-No. 12 Rutgers and Cal State Fullerton in non-conference action.
Defender Maxine Goynes and midfielder Kendra Perry became the sixth and seventh Broncos to earn All-Freshman team honors. Goynes has seen time 17 of the Broncos' 20 contests this season and earned a starting position in 12 of those games. Meanwhile, Perry has seen action in all 20 contests this season and started in 19 games. Both players had integral roles in Santa Clara's victories over then-No. 2 Notre Dame, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine and Saint Mary's, while helping the Broncos to a 0-0 shutout of then-No. 1 Stanford.
Senior Meagan Snell rounds out Santa Clara's All-WCC honorees as she received her second accolade after being named an honorable mention. The forward scored three goals for the Broncos this season. Her goal against Saint Mary's last Saturday entered the record books as the shortest time between goals for the team as she tapped the ball in eight seconds after Kendall Doherty's second goal of the day.
Santa Clara earned its 19th consecutive NCAA appearance on Monday and will face Cal-Berkeley in the opening round on Friday, Nov. 16 at 4:30 p.m. at Stanford University.
