Smith Welcomes Nationally Recognized Recruiting Class

Feb. 6, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Santa Clara women's soccer head coach Jerry Smith announced the signing of 10 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent this week. The 2009 freshmen class is comprised of Katherine Beaudoin, Cailin Doherty, Zoe Jeffers, Lauren Kawamoto, Olivia Klei, Lauren Matheson, Alexis Rubattino, Meleana Shim, Alexandra Vernon and Amanda Webster.

"We are thrilled to welcome the class of 2009 to Santa Clara," said Smith, who will enter his 23rd season at the helm of the Bronco program this season. "This group has everything a coach would want: talent, athleticism, skill, depth, leadership and are self-motivated student-athletes who are destined for success on the field, in the classroom and in life."

The 2009 class has been recognized nationally as one of the top recruiting classes this year.

"This is arguably the best class we have signed since our 1996 class that went to the Final Four four-consecutive years," Smith said. "I expect these players to make an immediate impact on our team next season, as many of them will vie for starting positions, which will be an integral component in our progressing program."
