Bosio and Klein Help US Under-23 To 3-0 Win Over England

July 18, 2008

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara alum Brittany Klein and current Bronco standout Kiki Bosio aided the United States in its 3-0 triumph over England in the second round of the 2008 Nordic Cup on July 18. The Americans compiled their second straight win and shutout of the tournament held in Borlange, Sweden.

The USA scored in the 37th minute to take the 1-0 lead after India Trotter went one-on-one with an English defender before sending her shot into the right corner. Then, just two minutes into the second half, the Americans doubled the score on a shot from Bosio. The goal came off a corner kick that was cleared by England, but sent back across the left side of the penalty area by Tina DiMartino to Bosio.

Klein then sealed the win for the US in the 79th minute with her second goal of the tournament. Klein took a touch off a pass from Kerri Hanks and then blasted the ball into the left corner of the goal. All three Broncos on the Under-23 roster, Bosio, Klein and Katherine Reynolds, started the match for the Americans.

The USA now needs a win or a tie in its final first round match, taking place on July 19 against Norway, to win the group and earn a berth in its 12th straight Nordic Cup title game. Both the USA and Norway have won their first two matches and are tied atop the group with six points, but the USA has a superior goal difference at plus-4 to Norway's plus-2, meaning a tie would give the U.S. top honors in the group.
