SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 12 Santa Clara women's soccer team defeated No. 10 West Virginia, 2-1, in a second overtime victory. Sophomore Kendra Perry scored the game winning goal in the 111th minute of play off an Anessa Patton assist in the Broncos first game at the Inn at Saint Mary's Soccer Classic on the campus of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

SCU's goalkeeper Meagan McCray gave up her first goal of the season in the 36th minute to the Mountaineers Megan Mischler. Mischler's goal came from a through ball from Deana Everrett into the upper right corner. After giving up the first half goal, McCray and the Broncos defense were solid and did not let West Virginia capitalize on any shot opportunities.

Junior Kiki Bosio, who was sick with strep throat, saw limited action, and head coach Jerry Smith's underclassmen stepped up to fill the void the All-WCC forward left. Midfielder Perry, not only scored the game winning goal, but also scored Santa Clara's only goal in regulation and her first collegiate goal. The second half unassisted goal came in the 50th minute when she scored off a rebound from a free kick save.

"Tonight's game was a gritty hard fought performance," said Smith. "As a coach you want to go through the season and see different scenarios; tonight we were able to come back from behind and win in overtime. We accomplished a lot as a team against a talented West Virginia team."

The Broncos return to action on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 10:30 a.m. PT, when they take on tournament hosts No. 5 Notre Dame.
