SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 12 Santa Clara women's soccer team fell to No. 5 Notre Dame, 2-0, in their final game at the Inn at Saint Mary's Soccer Classic in South Bend, Ind. on the campus of Notre Dame. Forwards Kiki Bosio and Lexi Orand, and midfielder Kendra Perry were named to the Inn at Saint Mary's Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team for their strong performances all weekend.

"I am very proud of our team," said head coach Jerry Smith. "They fought very hard against a very talented Notre Dame team. Kiki, Lexi and Kendra were all very deserving of being named to the All-Tournament team. "

The Broncos lost defender Lindsey Johnson in the first minutes of play to injury and freshman Kathleen Matthew subbed in and played in her second game on the back line for SCU. In the 16th minute the Fighting Irish got a lucky break when Michel Weissenhofer's shot was saved by Meagan McCray and deflected back into goal by Matthew giving Notre Dame a 1-0 lead over Santa Clara.

Twenty minutes later the Irish's Erica Iantorno scored their first earned goal, off a loose ball at the top of the box that was shot into the right corner of the goal. In the second half the Broncos kept Notre Dame out of any more scoring opportunities. The Irish defense was able to maintain the 2-0 lead, keeping Santa Clara out of the goal.

While McCray gave up two goals, she had a standout game. She tallied nine saves on Notre Dame's 11 shots on goal.

"Meagan had a great weekend at goal," said Smith. "She was fantastic at goal and we want to congratulate her on her performance. She was an obvious omission from the All-Tournament team."

The Broncos return to action this week when they travel to Southern California. On Friday, Sept. 5 they take on the 2007 National Champions, No. 1 USC at 3 p.m. PT. Two days later they take on Cal State Fullerton, on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. PT.
