SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 12 Santa Clara women's soccer team fell 2-1 to No. 1 USC off a late second half goal by the Women of Troy. Sophomore midfielder and WCC Player of the Week, Kendra Perry, scored her third goal in three games. Anessa Patton's shot towards the right post was knocked away by Southern California's goalkeeper Kristen Olsen, but Olsen could not control the ball and Perry followed through and kicked the ball into the far right post to tie the Trojans 1-1.

Three minutes prior to Perry's equalizing goal, USC's Ashley Freyer scored the first goal of the game after 70 minutes of scoreless play. Freyer received a headed pass from Marihelen Tomer, and scored on a one-on-one with Meagan McCray.

The Broncos kept pace with the 2007 National Champions throughout the game. McCray posted five saves on the Trojans seven shots on goal and SCU posted five shots on goal, three from the boot of Patton.

"We played a hard fought game," head coach Jerry Smith said. "It was a fairly even game until late in the second half when USC scored the game-winning goal."

In the 79th minute the Trojans took the lead off an Alyssa Davila goal. Minutes before, the Broncos cleared out a USC corner kick, but unfortunately forward Kiki Bosio fell near the box leaving Davila onsides to score the game-winner off of an Ashli Sandoval assist.

Santa Clara looks to come back and get their third win of the season on Sunday, Sept. 7 when they take on No. 21 Cal State Fullerton at 1 p.m.
