SANTA CLARA, Calif. - On a day of player firsts, the No. 12 Santa Clara women's soccer team edged No. 21 Cal State Fullerton, 2-1, off a Margueritte Aozasa game-winning goal in the 75th minute. Freshman Aozasa, who has started the last four games at midfield, stepped up to Katherine Reynolds' corner kick into the goal mouth, beat her defender and slid her shot past the Titans goalkeeper Shannon Simpson to score her first collegiate goal. Santa Clara delivered the 4-0 Titans their first loss of the season.

"She was a standout player this weekend and we have really seen her grow into one of our top players in the first three weekends of the season," said head coach Jerry Smith. "She is a solid player who can also step up and have a big impact, and deserves a tremendous amount of recognition."

The Aozasa - Reynolds combination led the Broncos to their first goal of the game in the 17th minute, when the pair assisted on Alyssa Chun's goal. Chun, who also scored her first career goal, shot from 20 yards out got SCU off to a 1-0 lead.

Fullerton answered Chun's goal ten minutes later when Tamara Dewey's penalty kick got past Santa Clara's freshman keeper, Bianca Henninger. Henninger started at goal and played the full 90 minutes for the Broncos in her first collegiate game. She posted four saves on the Titans ten shots, five of which were on goal. Fullerton kept pace with SCU the entire game and saw a final opportunity of evening the score in the 86th minute when Dewey's shot on goal was saved by Henninger.

The Broncos travel back to Northern California to take on UNC Greensboro on Friday, Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m., and No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday, Sept. 14 at noon at the Stanford Invitational.
