Sept. 19, 2008

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Former Bronco standouts and National Team members Leslie Osborne and Aly Wagner were selected in the 2008 Women's Professional Soccer 2008 Allocation. Osborne returns to play in Northern California, as the midfielder was selected by the Bay Area franchise, and Wagner will join the Los Angeles based team.

While at Santa Clara, Osborne made an immediate impact and was an integral member of the 2001 team that won College Cup Championship her freshman season. In 2004 she was Soccer Buzz's Player of the Year and the Honda Award winner.

"I am so happy to have the WPS league start in 2009 and even more excited to be allocated to the Bay Area," said Osborne, who has dreamed of playing in Northern California again. "I think it's a great area and community to have a women's team in."

Aly Wagner joins the Los Angeles franchise.

She played alongside Wagner, a San Jose native, who is coming off winning back-to-back Olympic gold medals. The 2002 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy honoree holds or shares every offensive NCAA Tournament record for the Broncos and led them to their first and only College Cup Championship in 2001, as she was the Offensive MVP.

"I am looking forward to being able to play in a professional league again," Wagner said. "Playing on the National Team involves a lot of international traveling, so I am excited about the possibility of playing in front of hometown fans."

The current No. 24 Broncos will take on Cal Poly tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Yale at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21 in the Santa Clara/adidas Classic.
