This Week for Bronco Women's Soccer
The Santa Clara women's soccer team will face two nationally ranked programs this week. On Thursday, Sept. 25 the Broncos will host the undefeated Bruins of UCLA who are ranked second in the nation. UCLA is 7-0-1 on the season. The game will air live on Fox Soccer Channel; kick off is set for 8 p.m. Three days later, SCU will travel to the East Bay to take on No. 23 California in Berkeley. The Golden Bears post a 5-3-0 overall record.
Last Week for Women's Soccer
The Broncos hosted their first home stand of the season this past weekend. They hosted Cal Poly and Yale at the Santa Clara/adidas Classic; Stanford also participated, but did not face the Broncos. On Friday, Sept. 19, Santa Clara took on Cal Poly in their season home opener at the newly renovated Buck Shaw Stadium. Freshman Jenny LaPonte scored her second career goal in the second half to tie the game at 1-1 apiece. Freshman Bianca Henninger took keeper duties for the night, starting her third game in a four game span. After ending regulation tied at 1-1, the Broncos played in their second overtime period of the season. Less than five minutes into extra time, the Mustangs scored on a fast break to the lower right corner. The play was plagued with confusion, as one of Cal Poly's players was called offsides seconds before. The Broncos then stopped playing because of the call, but another Mustang broke through onsides and scored.
Two days later, SCU hit the field again to close out the Classic with Yale. The double overtime 0-0 draw was the first tie of the season for the Broncos.
Forward Kiki Bosio and goal keeper Meagan McCray both were named to the Santa Clara/adidas Classic All-Tournament team. Bosio led SCU's offensive attack throughout the weekend and McCray took keeper duties in the Yale game, playing 110 minutes at goal. She kept the Bulldogs out of the net and prevented the Broncos from falling in their fourth straight game.

In the National Spotlight
This week's home match versus No. 2 UCLA will air live on Fox Soccer Channel. Kick off is at 8 p.m. at the newly renovated Buck Shaw Stadium. At halftime a randomly selected fan will have the chance to win $10,000 dollars in a halftime kicking contest.

Bosio and McCray Named to Santa Clara/adidas Classic All-Tournament Team
Forward Kiki Bosio and goal keeper Meagan McCray both were named to the Santa Clara/adidas Classic All-Tournament team. Bosio led SCU's offensive attack throughout the weekend, working to try to create several scoring opportunities. McCray, who took keeper duties in the game, played 110 minutes at goal. Not only was she able to keep Yale scoreless throughout the entire game, but helped lead the Broncos' defense to not allow the Bulldogs to break through and get on the board.
Santa Clara Earns First Draw
After playing 110 minutes versus Yale on Sunday, Sept. 21, the Broncos earned a 0-0 double overtime draw. This was the first game this season that Santa Clara has tied an opponent.
Broncos Overtime Minutes
For the third time this season, the Broncos have played overtime minutes. Their first was at the Inn at Saint Mary's Classic when they defeated then No. 10 West Virginia, 2-1, in overtime off a Kendra Perry goal on Aug. 29. This past weekend, Santa Clara took both their games into extra time. On Friday, Sept. 19 they fell in overtime, 2-1, to Cal Poly, and on Sunday, Sept. 21, they took Yale into a double overtime draw.
LaPonte Gets Broncos on the Board
Freshman Jenny LaPonte scored the Broncos first goal in three games versus Cal Poly on Friday, Sept. 19. The goal kept Santa Clara's hopes alive in the game, as they were down 1-0 for over half the game. She is second on the team in goals scored and points with four.
McCray Posts 22 Saves
Santa Clara/adidas Classic All-Tournament Team honoree, goal keeper Meagan McCray posts 22 saves on the season. She has started and played in six games this season, sharing some time in the box with freshman Bianca Henninger.
Henninger to Spend Time with U18 National Team
Freshman goal keeper Bianca Henninger will spend the next week and a half competing with the US U18 National Team. She began playing on the National Team in 2004 on the U14 team. In 2008 she has played for the U18's on the Spain and Denmark/France tours.
Scouting UCLA
The No. 2 UCLA Bruins make their first trip to Northern California of the season and post an undefeated record of, 7-0-1.
Over the weekend they hosted the UCLA Women's Cup, shutting out both opponents, 3-0. On Friday, Sept. 19, they kept Miami scoreless in 90 minutes, followed by Sunday's performance when they blanked New Mexico.
In Sunday's match, Kara Lang scored her second goal of the season, while Kristina Larsen notched her third and Liz Zadro scored her first goal of the season.Two days prior Christina DiMartino scored two goals and Kylie Wright got her first goal of the season versus Miami.
Leading the Bruins this season are Lauren Cheney who has four goals and four assists, and Sydney Lerouz who posts three goals and three assists. Taking primary keeper duties is Ashley Thompson, who has two shutouts this season, with a 0.14 goals against average.
In their last meeting the Broncos fell to the Bruins, 4-1 on Oct. 7, 2007. Santa Clara leads the all-time series, 5-3-1.
Scouting California
The Golden Bears of UC Berkeley enter this week with a No. 23 national ranking. They are, 5-3-0, on the season and come into this weekend after falling in their last two games on their trip to the state of Texas.
On Sunday, Sept. 21 they fell to Texas, 2-1 in the final seconds of the game. The lone scorer was Alex Morgan, assisted by Megan Jesolva. Two days prior, they were shutout by Texas A&M, 1-0. It was their first shutout loss of the season.
Leading the East Bay based squad is Morgan, who has scored five goals in eight games and notched three assists. Lisa Kevorkian is the top scorer with six goals, and she has one assist. At keeper Gina Pellegrini has posted two shutouts and has a goals against average of 1.13, in six games.
On Deck
The Broncos will return home to host a pair of Pac-10 teams. On Friday, Oct. 3 they will host local rival No. 6 Stanford at 7 p.m., followed by Arizona on Sunday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
