LOS ANGELES, Calif. - In their first conference road trip of the season, the Santa Clara women's soccer team could not get an advantage over the Lions of Loyola Marymout, Friday at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles, as they fell 2-1 in the contest. The Broncos (4-10-3, 1-2-1 WCC) statistically led the game with 21 shots to LMU's 11, but could not get on the board until the 77th minute when Lexi Orand crossed the ball to Anessa Patton. Patton then volleyed the ball from six yards out over the Lions' goal keeper Allyssa Clark.

"I was happy that we dominated play throughout the game and were aggressive," head coach Jerry Smith said. "Unfortunately, we were not able to translate that into goals and we are disappointed in our result."

Sophomore Kendra Perry had a very strong game in the middle for SCU, as she worked to create several scoring opportunities for the Broncos. She had two shots in the game and Maxine Goynes, who played in forward for the third game in a row after moving up top from a central defender, had six shots in the game. The Perry - Goynes combination pressed Loyola Marymount's goal, but were unable to get clear shots to the net.

Orand, who assisted on the Broncos solo score, notched her second assist of the season and had five shots in the game. In goal, senior Meagan McCray got the start and had one save in the game. The Santa Clara defense, led by McCray, worked hard to keep a strong backline, but LMU was able to penetrate it twice for scores. In the 22nd and 76th minutes Julie Gallaudet scored both goals for the Lions, off Kim Feeney and Lily Sorentino assists, respectively.

The Broncos close out their Southern California trip with a visit to Pepperdine University to take on the Waves on Sunday, Oct. 26. Kick off is set for 1 p.m.
