PORTLAND, Ore. - The Santa Clara women's soccer team concluded the road half of the 2008 campaign with a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Portland. The game was broadcasted live on ESPNU. The Broncos fall to 4-12-3, 1-4-1 WCC, while the Pilots improve to 16-1-0, 6-0-0 WCC.

UP had 30 shots to SCU's five shots in the game. Two came off the foot of sophomore tri-captain Maxine Goynes, Anessa Patton who subbed in at forward tallied a pair of shots and junior Lexi Orand had second half shot.

Freshman Kathleen Matthew made her fourth straight start at defender for SCU and played the full 90 minutes, alongside sophomore Lauren Anselmo, freshman Margueritte Aozasa and redshirt junior Dani Potts.

Senior Meagan McCray got the start in goal for the Broncos. McCray posted two saves and gave up two goals in the first half to Portland's Sophie Schmidt and Megan Rapinoe. Freshman Bianca Henninger played at goal in the second half for Santa Clara. Henninger had seven saves and gave up Schmidt's second goal and Michell Enyeart unassisted goal. The Pilots Jessica Tsao assisted on three of Portland's goals.

"Portland is one of the best teams we've faced all year," head coach Jerry Smith said. "There were several bright spots and we fought hard, but we lost to a talented Pilot team in front of packed Portland stadium."

The Broncos conclude the regular season at home when they host Gonzaga on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. Senior McCray's career will be celebrated prior to the game, as Santa Clara will celebrate Senior Day at their final home game.
