EUGENE, Ore. - #16 Santa Clara (3-0-1) battled to a tie with #21 Oregon State (2-1-1) by a score of 1-1. It was the first game for Santa Clara against a ranked opponent this season.

The Broncos got off to a quick start when Sarah Jackson was able to get off a shot in the fourth minute but the shot was blocked by the Beaver defense. In the eighth minute Ellie Rice got another scoring chance but again the ball was blocked by the defense.

Two minutes later, in the 10th minute, Lauren Matheson finally put a ball in the back of the net to put Santa Clara up by a score of 1-0. The goal was scored on a free kick that went off the crossbar and into the goal. The goal was the third of the year for Matheson. which matched her season total from both 2009 and 2010.

The Broncos were able to put several shots on goal but Oregon State goalie Colleen Boyd held strong and didn't allow Santa Clara to extend its lead. The game went to half with a score of 1-0.

The Beavers got their first shot in the 62nd minute but Haley Shaw kicked it wide of the net.

In the 71st minute, however, Oregon State didn't miss their opportunity. Ashley Seal headed a ball past Bronco goalie Bianca Henninger on assists from Melinda Ingalls and Justyne Freud. This put the score at 1-1.

While each team had other chances in the second half, no one was able to score the game-winner and so the game went into overtime.
