SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Just back from U23 National Team camp, Morgan Marlborough has transferred to Santa Clara University to be a member of the women's soccer team. The senior-to-be has been one of the top goal-scorers in the nation with the University of Nebraska the past three seasons. Marlborough is the back-to-back Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and All-American. She will have to sit out the 2012 season due to the NCAA's transfer rules.
"I'm very excited about Morgan joining our team," said Bronco head coach Jerry Smith. "She is one of the most dangerous attacking players in the country. Her dribbling and scoring ability ranks up there with the best I have ever worked with. The numbers don't lie. She has averaged, over her three previous college seasons, more than double the goals of our leading goal scorer this past fall. Although she will sit out the 2012 season due to NCAA transfer rules, she is training with us everyday and is already making a difference in the level of play in our training. Also, sitting out a season will allow her to become an even better player with the additional training she'll receive, as well as become more familiar with her new teammates. We are all very excited about Morgan's decision to transfer to Santa Clara University."
After just three years at Nebraska Marlborough was only 11 goals away from being the all-time leading goal-scorer for the Cornhuskers. In her three collegiate seasons she has scored 59 goals including breaking the 20 goals-scored mark twice. As a freshman in 2009 Marlborough scored a career-high four goals vs. Akron. In addition to her goals, Marlborough has also shown the ability to set-up her teammates by adding 25 assists.
