SANTA CLARA, Calif. – It is a very exciting time on the Santa Clara University campus as incoming freshman will be moving in this weekend. Returning students are starting to come back to the area and the campus seems more crowded each day. For freshman Dani Weatherholt of the Bronco women's soccer team, her life as a Bronco had a great start as she scored her first goal in the 90th minute during their third game of the season vs. UC Riverside on Aug. 26th and contributed to the team's 3-0 victory. Weatherholt (DW) caught up with SantaClaraBroncos.com (SCB) as she looks forward to a great season with the team. The Broncos holds a 3-2-2 record so far as they take on the UNC Greensboro Spartans at home on Fri., Sept. 14th at 7:30pm and SDSU at 1:30pm on Sun., Sept. 16.

SCB: How has your experience been so far being a Bronco?

DW:
My experience as a Bronco so far has been awesome. The women on the team have gone out of their way to make us freshmen feel welcome and comfortable.

SCB:  What are you looking forward to this season and this school year?

DW:
I am looking forward to learning new things as well as working hard with my team to have a successful season. I also look forward to meeting new people once school starts.

SCB:  Were you/are you nervous about anything?

DW:
Coming in as a freshman I was nervous about my first few games. Getting comfortable with the team has helped take away those nerves.

SCB: You had a great first goal as a Bronco at the UC Riverside game. How did it feel?

DW:
The goal felt incredible because it was a team effort. It was the hard work of my teammate Kat McAuliffe that made the goal possible.

SCB:  What are you focusing on to improve?

DW:
I am focusing on becoming a more attacking player and making more of an impact in the attacking third.

SCB:  What is the team atmosphere like? What do you like about your team?

DW:
The team has great chemistry and this creates a very fun environment.  I also love how everyone works so hard for one another.

SCB: What motivates/pushes you to work hard?

DW:
Coming into this program as a freshman, my goal was to help the team in anyway that I could. The desire for a successful season for my seniors and teammates motivates me to work harder.

SCB:  Who has been your inspiration throughout your soccer career so far?

DW:
Michelle Akers has always been my inspiration in soccer as well as in life. Always faced with adversity, she was the hardest worker and a great leader.

SCB: Any message to the SCU community?

DW:
Thank you for all the support and we look forward to making you proud as we go forward!!

GO BRONCOS!
