Andi Tostanoski Named Top Drawer Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off of a shutout win in conference play, No. 19 Santa Clara women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski was honored by Top Drawer Soccer as the Goalkeeper of the Week for her hand in the Broncos 2-0 win over Gonzaga on October 21.

The Broncos, now No. 8 in the RPI, next play on Fri., Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at San Francisco and again on Sun., Oct. 28 at 11:30 a.m. vs. San Diego at Buck Shaw.

"It feels awesome to be recognized," said Tostanoski. "I'm so happy that I could be a part of such a great program that has given me so many opportunities. My first season with Santa Clara has been great. We have a chance at the conference title and I couldn't be more excited. I'm so ready to compete in the tournament and hopefully make it to the later stages. As a freshman I feel so blessed to have the opportunities I have had and I could not be happier with my team and the coaches."

"I'm very happy for Andi to be recognized and for the team to have her back and healthy," said Bronco head coach Jerry Smith, in his 26th season at Santa Clara. "She has been solid for us all year long and it's a real credit to her to receive an honor like this. It was also great earlier in the year to be named the top goalkeeper at the Notre Dame Tournament."

Tostanoski collected three saves, including two diving stops, in Santa Clara's ninth win of the season. Fellow freshman Dani Weatherholt scored the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute off a header sent in from Lauren Matheson. Team captain Julie Johnston added a second goal in the 86th minute off an assist from Sofia Huerta.

Tostanoski is having a tremendous freshman campaign. She has started all but two games due to injury and played over 1,300 minutes in net for the Broncos. She is allowing a 1.03 GAA and has a .792 save percentage. She has six shutouts, tied for second in the WCC, to go along with 57 saves.

Santa Clara is 9-3-4 overall and 2-1-1 in WCC play in 2012.  The Broncos knocked off No. 15 Cal on August 23 on the road and tied No. 23 Georgetown, No. 15 San Diego State and No. 6 BYU in Provo.
